Why We Do What We Do

When Dr. Shaker founded Shaker Financial Services in 1995, he saw investing as a great way to help his friends and family. Twenty years later, we still maintain that belief. Whether you are saving for retirement, paying for your child's wedding or buying a new home, our mission is to help you achieve your financial goals.

About The Founder

Dr. Richard Shaker founded Shaker Financial Services in 1995 and served as Portfolio Manager until 2011. Prior to that, he was the Chief Mathematician at the National Security Agency (NSA), where he worked for 26 years. Dr. Shaker received his BS, MS, and PhD in Mathematics from the University of Chicago. In 1970 and 1974, he won the Mathematics Society Award for the best technical paper of the year. In 1980, the Director of NSA presented him with the Cryptologic Literature Award in recognition of a “lifetime of work,” citing 22 publications. In 1992, Dr. Shaker received the Presidential Rank Award for Meritorious Services as a member of the Senior Executive Service. Throughout his career, Dr. Shaker studied financial markets and developed investment strategies. While at NSA, Dr. Shaker discovered that the closed-end fund market is relatively inefficient, and is therefore particularly attractive to manage with his proprietary quantitative models.
